Paperclips

I think I figured out how to make a 3D dragon out of paperclips. This is the pattern I'll use that will take a couple tons of paperclips and even more patience, but I think I can handle it. Each section has about twenty or so paperclips. The silver one has 12 sections so far and the colored one has 9.

The dragon itself will be slender like a Chinese dragon and the wings will be a mesh/chain-mail sort of thing. I want to have the entire thing be paperclips, so if untwisting and re-twisting some paperclips together to make the frame will be strong enough, I'll do that. Otherwise, I just have to use some other type of metal or something else that would be sturdy. Or I could just hang it from the ceiling.

I might make a phoenix next. That will look really cool, especially if I can find the right colors.

Colored Pencils

Lately my favorite things to work with have been colored pencils. I have been using them a lot more since I have gotten a good set of them. To see what I've been working on, check out the traditional drawings page. There I have one drawing from my art class and three so far that I have done on my own.

I haven't had much time to draw because of a pile up of homework and projects in school, but I'm going to try to get more things done because I have too many ideas buzzing around in my head. I will try to do more digital stuff, but I'm waiting to see if I can get some better programs for doing that kind of stuff. Otherwise, I'm sticking to pencil, colored and normal.

Ferdinand & Jerry

I came up with a new character to go along with Ferdinand, the dog I made. He's a little cat named Jerry. Their names go together well and their actions resemble what my brother's and I would do to each other.

I've been making comics for them. If or when I have a lot done, I might make another blog just for them. Somewhere where I'll post all of their comics and possibly other comics that I come up with. I have to decide, though, if I want to digitally do all of them or stick with a pen and pencil method.

Bombing Sidewalks

The first day of sidewalk chalking went well. We got a lot of attention and a lot of people joined in drawing. In the end we actually had to ditch the chalk. Next time we go down we'll be getting new chalk.

I also need to think of a ton more ideas for next time. I used more than I thought I would when we went down to Rosa Parks Circle. I went down there with a bunch of ideas and came back with next to none.

I'm hoping to get down there again this week. I just hope I can get a day where I don't have homework in nearly every class.

They Might Be Giants

I am drawing up a concert poster for They Might Be Giants. They're playing down at the Intersection in Grand Rapids. It's technically supposed to be a competition but there's only two other entries. The winner will be put into Art Prize for the Intersection since it's a venue.

Art Prize

This year, I will be down town drawing in Art Prize. I'll be using chalk [sidewalk and soft pastels probably] to draw. I have a few ideas in mind ranging from drawn pictures to intricate designs. I'm not sure what days I'll be down there due to school, homework, and other what-nots like that.

If you have a chance, come down to Art Prize. It's worth going to no matter where you're at. All the things to see by different artists and the experience overall are priceless. Plus you get to vote for the winner. Definitely worth it to go.
